Midnight Sun Guided Trip – 7 days

7 days – 6 nights – Fully guided.

Summer camp was never this exciting. We have put together a seven-day introductory trip for those that want to experience the Yukon wilderness without a lengthy immersion into the raw backwoods of the north.

On arrival day you are treated to a familiarization tour of the City of Whitehorse, dubbed the “Wilderness City.” It is the Capital City of the Yukon with a population of almost 30,000 people.

In the late afternoon we head north on the Alaska and Klondike highways for approximately 40km to Fox Bay Retreat, our off-the-grid camp facility on the shore of legendary Lake Laberge, the renowned body of water immortalized by the well-known northern poet Robert Service when he penned “The Cremation of Sam McGee”  in the heady days of the Klondike Gold Rush.

canoeing, Kluane National Park, autumn coloursIn the next six days you will learn to get comfortable in your own canoe or kayak, learn all the basic rudiments of setting up a wilderness camp and receive some elementary lessons in survival techniques in the backwoods country while sleeping in a genuine Yukon log cabin.  During your stay  you will have the opportunity to practice your new skills on an overnight canoe trip from downtown Whitehorse to Fox Bay Retreat on day 3 and 4.

From a high knoll above the camp, we can watch the midnight sun dip briefly behind the mountain range on

the east shore and celebrate the summer solstice with a comforting drink around a late night bonfire.

During your stay with us there is a Voyageur canoe trip and a motorized freighter canoe ride around the lake with plenty of opportunities to try your luck at fishing for lake trout, northern pike and the arctic grayling.

On day five, a picnic lunch in hand, we take a drive to visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve for a first-hand encounter with some of Yukon’s fauna. A visit to Takhini Hot Springs tops off the day and we’re back at Fox Bay in time for dinner and the evening activities.

The accommodation at Fox Bay Retreat is in individual or shared cabins as well as a number of bedrooms upstairs in our main Fox Bay Lodge.  Meals are served in the lodge dining room.

We provide: Airport service, a City of Whitehorse escorted tour, all road transport during your stay with us, all meals at Fox Bay Retreat, canoes or kayaks for the duration of your stay,  camping gear, tents and food during your two-day Yukon River trip and our experienced and knowledgeable guides.

A list of recommended personal items will be provided well in advance of your arrival date. Participation in this tour will require you to complete a personal liability waiver.
